Mascheroni, G. (2018). Researching datafied children as data citizens. Journal of Children and Media, 12(4), pp. 517-523.
This commentary offers a concise overview of the datafication of children’s lives and the privacy implications. Following this, the commentary centres around three shortcomings that the author has identified in public and academic discourse surrounding the dataifcation of childhood. These are immediacy, atomism and essentialism. She argues for the need to contextualise the social, cultural and ethical issues surrounding datafication by approaching these as a matter of citizenship.
