This paper reports on an educational research study in two high schools. The study investigates teacher and student conceptions of data sharing risks and their knowledge of responsible data management practices. The results have implications for how educational researchers inform future research participants about data storage and usage in consent forms. The authors introduce a communication approach that attempts to better inform educational technology research participants of data-related risks.
